While you’re procrastinating…

Posted by The Harpies in Harpy Shout-out, Education, Race, Unexpected Consequences on Feb 6, 2009, 1:45pm | 3 comments

You might consider spending time at one of the Top 30 Sites in the Feminist Blogosphere, as compiled by The New Agenda.

We already list quite a number of them in our blogroll, but there are others that are new, even to us. We haven’t checked them all out, and no doubt there are other worthy sites not included (leave your links in comments!), but if you’re looking for other, mostly-white feminist outlets, this oughta give you a few. Womanist Musings, which, you’ll note, is included on the list, has something to say about the list, how it was determined and what it means, that I suggest you check out, even before you click through the rest of the links.

We’re not even two weeks old, but we’ve already got lots to aspire to, and since we’ve already earned our Troll Badge, we figure we’re well on our way. I think that we, and the rest of the feminist blogosphere could do a little more aspiring, too, to inclusivity and intersectionality. That would be a new agenda, for real.

My heart sings with joy! Really. I’m taking a vacation of sorts from where I first discovered you lovely ladies and was looking for blogs that where bloggers and commenters alike were inclusive to feminists of color.

It’s nice to know that when I bring up my race or class it won’t be treated as an attempt to “trump” any experiences that white feminists discuss.

Sing on, AFLV. We’ve got a lot of Pale Privilege over here, and there will no doubt be things that we’ll overlook, perspectives we’ll miss, issues we don’t even know to consider. I hope you’ll drop by and make your voice heard. Unlearning P and unlearning Racism have a lot in common, and a good first step is Learning to Listen.

Just piling on with my lady PhD on this point. We can’t promise we won’t fuck up along the way, of course, but I think we’re all ready to admit our fuck ups and to listen.

Also, that list nuttily includes this guy that links to porn all the time too. Methinks perhaps “most-linked” needs to be re-evaluated as a means of elevating blogs. How about “least-linked-but-most-insightful”?
