Dear Bonnie Erbe:

Posted by Pilgrim Soul in You Have Got To Be Fucking Kidding Me on Feb 18, 2009, 5:16pm | 4 comments

So, none of us here at Harpyness are particular fans of She Who Shall Not Be Named, but let’s be clear, once and for all.  Calling a woman a “sex kitten” while ostensibly in the process of critiquing her politics is not only anti-feminist, it is self-defeating.  We thought we had all gotten over this, but since the Great Ceiling Cat that rules us all has decreed that SWSNBN will be in our lives for some time to come, please kindly quit allowing “sex kitten” to masquerade as incisive critique.   This rule applies, no matter what kind of patriarchy-supporting, gaseous-windbag-propping-up, pageant-walking-toadying, sad-teenage-mother-mediawhoring, infuriatingly-unself-aware-being, unapologetic-massacre-of-fowl-sanctioning, expensive-clothes-paid-by-political-donor-wearing, funnily-accented clown of a woman is at issue.

In sum, cut. it. out.

Kisses,

Pilgrim Soul

P.S. As PhDork says so aptly: “What is up with columnists named Bonnie?“

If people MUST talk about her, why can’t they actually talk about the issues that make her repellent as a human being, not as a sex object? We get it, everyone: she’s a woman. Now could we please talk about why she sucks so much? Her vagina has nothing to do with it. Or better yet, let’s never speak of her again!

I do love your characterization of her, though. So concise!

Commenters to Bonnie’s dreck are (with one exception) even worse than her unhelpful sputterings. “How can you insult the amazing woman-governor?” “You’re just jealous!” “The governor is ugly!” and my favorite: “You need to get laid.” I would love to never speak of her again, but alas, being a feminist means speaking out against sexist bullshit, no matter who it’s targeting.

@PhDork: That’s like a multiple choice question where the answer is none of the above, dipshits.

[...] Jon, but my willful blindness is rather contingent on their not making shitty sexist remarks about women I don’t particularly like anyway but have to object to sexist critiques of because feminism can be a real bummer sometimes.  Oh [...]
