I bet it wasn’t “as many dates for his dollar”… I bet HE really liked YOU, even if you didn’t like him. I’m sure she wouldn’t have been pushing you if he had just said “no thanks, not my type”. Well, maybe, if he’s been there a while and she’s trying to get him off her hands and collect her fee!

@catnmus: No, I totally got that part! Which is why the whole thing just failed for me. She’s working for her clients and so it’s not about the women except that she needs to provide good customer service by parading as many women by her clients as possible. Which is why when she kept pushing me to go out with Date #2 again, as I said. I could see pretty clearly that she was motivated only by her need to give him good customer services–i.e. as many dates for his dollar as she could find. It’s a free country, so I don’t hate on her for doing it, but it’s a strange dynamic, that’s for sure.

You’re missing the point with Dolly and the whole 3-date thing. YOU are not her client! The *men* are. And they may well be matched up within 3 dates. If she said they have profiles of hundreds of women, they probably only have 20 or so “active” male clients…

I used to love the show “Confessions of a Matchmaker” on (I think) Bravo. Set in Buffalo NY. It was a hoot, the things that both sides – men and women – think are appropriate for a first date (but aren’t).

i was matchmaked the old fashioned way by an elderly future aunt-in-law at a wedding. Hubbie and I are almost on 7 years with 3 kids.

@PhDork: the one advantage of being a stealth Jew is I fly under the radar of the Mizvah Mobile fanatics. They never even try it with me!

@LysergicAsset: As the daughter of a Southern Methodist mother and an Ashkenazi father, I completely agree. I found Dolly unpleasant on many levels, but her whole “stick with your own kind” crap really rubbed me the wrong way, because if my parents had, well, I wouldn’t be here.

sarah.of.a, I think you’re a stealth-Jew. That is, Jewish, but not obviously so. You slip under the radar of Jewitude. My faux-Jew (that is, not Jewish, but dark-and-vaguely-Jewish-looking) dude is constantly having to deal with questions about “his faith” from the guys who drive the Mitzvah Mobile around the village, trying to make him more observant.

It is moments like this when I am so relieved to be happy about my status as a singleton. My mother is constantly trying to get me on JDate and match.com. I can’t do it, it just feels forced. I think it would be the same way with pro matchmakers. I know it’s to each their own, because my aunt met her husband at a singles meet-up V-Day dance in 1969 and have been married nearly 40 years.

And I must be a WASP faux-Jew, too! I only got the Scottish features, none of the JewSioux.
