I need to get back to an essay on 20th century German women’s writing, ironically, but I just wanted to say that A Room of One’s Own is amazing.

I’m not sure if this is answering your final question or if I’ve understood it wrong, but here’s what I’ll say:

You have a right to your opinion about gendered writing and shouldn’t be made to feel bad about it.

I’d argue that plenty of men have shown insight into women’s lives though. Antigone? Emma Bovary? That isn’t to say that women’s writing doesn’t bring something special to the table, but I do think it’s too sweeping to say that no men can ever write about women.

I’ve never made it through Mrs. Dalloway, but perhaps this essay would be a better window into Woolf for me.

Opinion question: Do you think that anything other than polemicism is viewed (albeit inadvertently) as resignation these days? Do we need to be irate to be heard? Pros/cons?

Oh, PSoul. Sometimes it is like you are looking through the internet directly into my soul. I’m reading “A Room of One’s Own” right this very minute. As in, it is under my right arm with a bookmark in it and a pencil nearby, because I have been underlining furiously.

Anyway, I’m a young feminist and I like to talk about Woolf, so can we be friends now?
