In Which I Peace Out (Though Not of the Patriarchy)

Posted by Pilgrim Soul in Thoughts on Mar 13, 2009, 3:00pm | 18 comments

A very sad thing is about to happen.  Well, sad for you, anyway.  I am going away from the Internet for several days.  I know!  How will I live?  I shall have to console myself with the following bleak skyline:

That’s right.  I am being sadly forced, tomorrow, to head for the Galapagos islands and live out a Very Special Episode of PilgrimSoul Geographic.

Mostly, I chose the Galapagos because it is warm there – specifically, because I know you’re wondering, between 80 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.  (I am learning your American ways but slowly.)

But there are side benefits.  Because do you know what the Galapagos also has?

It has lizards.  Cute lizards.  That sit on iguana heads.  You know, just for fun.

There are also burned out American barges, according to Flickr:

You may commence your weeping for me now.

See you March 23rd!

You more than deserve this break. Sad for me indeed! Can I be a stowaway? I fit easily in most overhead luggage bins.

Holy Shit! I am jealous. Have fun, I bet its amazing. Not to be dumb, but do they even have a big tourism industry there? ie. hotels etc

Apparently yes, bluebears, but I am on a boat with about 20 other people, which is apparently the way to do it. It is monstrously expensive, and given that my job may not last out the year I should be saving, but ah…. fuck it. You only live once.

Enjoy the dance of the blue-footed booby, too! So jealous. See some giant tortoises, too. Sigh…

Keep a diary and take lots of photos!!!! Pretend you’re Darwin “discovering” it all for the first time. Pretend Paul Bettany is there. It will be fabulous.

My father went to the Galapagos with a group of education majors and the main anecdote was how my 57 year old father was up all night chasing a 20 year old frat boy/douchebag around the city. I sincerely hope that your vacation there is more relaxing and that you get many pictures of blue-footed boobies.

Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one who tends to start posts with “In Which…” Although mine tend to be “In which we attempt to convince the US Postal Service that we do not, in fact, live in Pompano Beach, Florida.” In other words, I am less awesome than you, P.Soul.

Have fun! I wonder if you’ll run into my best friend, she’s also leaving on a Macchu Picchu/Galapagos trip tomorrow. On our last trip, we met a couple who had gone to the Galapagos and they loved it.
