Misandry and hate speech? Bish, plz. via i5prof @ flickr
We here at Harpyness are flattered whenever we are deemed important enough to be linked to, but one particular site that referenced us caught our eye. It is a men’s rights site that campaigns against misandry, or hatred of men. One member linked to us and many other sites with this memorable phrase: “heres [sic] some pretty hairy man-hating sites.” Guess he read my post about not shaving my legs all year long, although he clearly missed Pilgrim Soul’s post on (not) hating men.
Several of the sites on our blogroll were also featured on the list of “man-hating” URLs — as were The Polly Klaas Foundation, The National Center For Missing and Exploited Children, and The White Ribbon Campaign. Yes, those sites dedicated to protecting children and women against violence are clearly just misandry in disguise! It got even crazier in the comments section, when one commenter said that sites like ours are “propagating hate and inciting violence,” and another declared that these sites are “in fact spewing hatred. They are thus violating the law.” Oh for the fuck of shit! How are people this idiotic still in existence?
I have decided not to link directly to them so that there is not a trackback that sends all of their trolls over here. If you want to take a look at the site, just type antimisandry and then add the dot com. You’ll know you have the right place if the tagline “The cure against feminist indoctrination” shows up. Yes, that pesky feminist indoctrination, the one that we teach children from a very young age, alongside the homosexual agenda. Or not.
The site is not limited, of course, to such fine-tuned critique of sites like Harpyness. It’s a forum for misogyny, in all its manifestations. So you have a section dedicated to female pedophiles and abusers, and a section dedicated to false rape allegations. The false allegations section is particularly enraging, as it devalues the actual horrific crimes perpetrated against women on the basis that there are some people who lie. Oh, and a thread wherein the members all agree that child support is a government tax and not designed to actually help children. I actually managed to laugh at one section’s byline: “The female-supremacist hate movement called ‘feminism’ must be opened to the disinfecting sunlight of the world’s gaze and held to a stern accounting for its grevious transgressions.”
Nasty sites on the Internet are a dime a dozen, but this site is, to paraphrase Obi-Wan Kenobi, a wretched hive of scum and misogyny. And they linked to us. So I have to believe that means we’re doing something right. This is a site that is motivated not only by hatred but also by a misguided fear that feminism is an evil plot to trample men underfoot. It seems like anyone who talks lucidly about gender issues scares the shit out of these people; the fact that we caught their woman-hating eye is almost a badge of honor to me.

These guys make me SEETHE. But there’s really nothing to be gained by taking on such irrational hateration. They’re obviously already impervious to logic or common sense.
I am reminded of the words of Jane Austen:
“She did not think he deserved the compliment of rational opposition.”
(also, that pic is TOO PERFECT)
Yeah, hence why I dared not link to them. But I think it’s necessary to remember that there are these kinds of assholes (not all of them men) spewing this bile.
“the disinfecting sunlight of the world’s gaze”
Gah! They must be joking, right? Right?!
So what you’re saying is it’s a site that wants to bring light to the evil plot of man hating by hating women? Really?
I like the idea that this is some kind of hidden, secret, monstrous PLOT that women are trying to enact over the internet.
With websites that are designed to attract attention.
Quoth Twisty: “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: because of Dude Nation’s successful propaganda campaign, most women wouldn’t be feminists with a 10 foot pole, and the few who buck this trend are required to spend 83.7% of their time begging the citizenry to believe that they don’t hate men and aren’t crazy.”
I’ve always said the The National Center For Missing and Exploited Children was just a front for the secret organization of alien amazon woman who secretly control the world through subliminal thought waves beamed through Oprah repeats.
Seriously though, these ridiculous men are pathetic. Not all men, these men. It would be laughable, if only there weren’t so many of them, and so willing and to spew their hatred and ignorance on anyone who gets in their idiotic way.
@Crabby: You got it! Except that the man-hating doesn’t exist, so they are fighting against a phantom. Battle on, brave misogynist warriors!
They also called for their readers to report hate sites (like Harpyness and the Polly Klass Foundation) because they’re illegal. Report them to whom? I don’t know. Just report them because they’re man-hating and that’s against the law!!?!1
It’s Canadian, so it’s to the “Canadian authorities” under Canadian hate speech laws. Which, uh, that’s not how they work at all. But whatever!
Becky, that is a great quotation.
Also… if we’re a hate site, so are they. Well, actually, they’re more of one because we actually don’t hate anyone.
I’ve heard that Missing and Exploited Children have a lot of political power that they’re using to repress men. Insidious, really.
@SarahMC: Perhaps someone here could enlighten me, but what is illegal about “spewing hate?” I’m only asking so I can get my Crabby v. Fox News and Crabby v. Rush Limbaugh lawsuits off the ground.
Crabby, MRAs consider themselves law scholars by virtue of having been born with cocks. It’s kinda funny to watch them threaten legal action.
Man, they can’t STAND it when we stand up to the patriarchy! Even a little internet caterwauling makes them insecure.
Carry on, ladies.
@SarahMC: Dammit, that must be why men find me “mannish!” My law degree!
@PSoul: No, it’s your intelligence! Women can’t be smart, so your big brain must be a sign of high testosterone levels.
@Pilgim: All you have to do is read some of the comments on Jezebel anytime any “feminist” topic is raised to know that quote is spot on. It’s so tiresome.
I am not going to look that up because I have a heart murmur and I fear the violence of the emotions such a website would invoke in me would cause my heart to immediately explode.
@bluebears: It’s no use talking to PSoul about people who misunderstand feminism on Jezebel, because her past comments prove definitively that she hates men with a fiery passion and cannot be reasoned with.
@Khrushchev: Oh shit, I have a heart murmur too! Next call will be to my cardiologist…
Their logic is astounding. Real crimes (abuse, rape) are not really illegal and should be made fun of but websites that supposedly “spew hate” are dangerous and must be stopped? I’m lost for words.
@RussianDictator: She doesn’t have a cock, so don’t believe a word she says.
@Krushchev: so true. I’m sure she foams at the mouth at the mere sight of a man.
OK, that site is seriously depressing. And there are women who are members. Messed up.
Women are members of this site because nothing will get you ahead in the patriarchy like capitulating to the enemy to the extent that you deny patriarchy even exists. Book deals and Oprah interviews wait for you on that path.
@PS: Indeed. It’s tiresome.
@Pilgrim: Well, I am going to get ahead by writing a book! Except it will be classified as hate speech. Because, yes, I fucking hate the patriarchy. So I will write a book, but get no book deal, and end up a man-hater, because that totally = patriarchy-hater. Totally.
Yes, that $275 dollars my father was required to pay my mother every month for 16 years was totally enough money to support a child. TOTALLY. Just a tax on men for having penises that shoot sperm! Also, I just did the math on that, I make more in a year than my father paid my mother in 16 years of child support.
Yes, they do seem to fall into the odd (cough) category of claiming to be *totally* all about family. Except when it comes to, ya know, actually supporting them.
I am going to start using “oh for the fuck of shit!” ALL THE TIME.
also, word.
picture + article = awesome.
I was accused of “faux” feminism and man-hating the other day just for pointing out sexist commercials. I was told “these are tools used to market and sell. I know. I took a marketing class and it’s based on research.” I looked at him and said “Imagine that. Patriarchal results from a patriarchal society.” He couldn’t say anything to that.
The more I look at this stuff, it just becomes clearer to me that one vital way the patriarchy operates is via projection, i.e. men (in the sense of “men” as a class of people adhering to a specific set of beliefs and behaviors as outlined in Pilgrim Soul’s post on the lie of man-hating) project their own faults on women.
Fact: women tend to use resources more effectively than men. Associated myth: the gold digger and Prada shopper.
Fact: men participate in most wars and commit the vast majority of violent crimes. Associated myth: catfights, backbiting, and gossip as inborn traits of women.
Fact: the patriarchy breeds hatred of women in most men. Associated myth: feminists hate men.
