Yesterday marked the three-month-iversary of The Pursuit of Harpyness, and we’re celebrating both our past and our bright future with a new look, courtesy of the mad HTML skeeeeelz (and infinite patience) of our very own Pilgrim Soul. You like?
The new design is not only comely, but also brings some new features. Along with our nifty tag cloud, you’ll find:
–a Random Posts widget, if you’re new here, or just like to revisit some of our older pieces,
–a Recent Comments widget, so you can see where the latest conversations are taking place,
–and a search function, so you can see if we’ve written anything on your favorite topic. G’wan, try it!
It’s not just the new design we’re excited about. Since we began, we’ve written more than 300 posts, received over 6,000 of your comments, and had an amazing 283,000 pageviews from readers in the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Finland! (ETA: And Australia!) We’ve been tumbld, tweeted, stumbledupon, and more. Thanks, Internets! At the rate we’re going, I’m inclined to believe that Harpyness is within our reach.
As we did at our first monthiversary, we’re inviting newbies to introduce themselves and lurkers to come out of the woodwork and take a bow, since it’s your interest and participation that help make this little corner of the web feminist-friendly and fun. If you have suggestions, questions, or topics/links you’d like to draw our attention to, please leave ‘em in comments, or email one (or more) of us.
Bottoms up!

Wow, those numbers are amazing. If you need to make some cash you can always teach a seminar in blogging! Most of us blog along never daring to hope to see stats like that. Keep up the good work.
I’m mostly a lurker but I have to tell you that this site of amazing. Your writing is excellent and thought-provoking. Love the new design too. (I found you through Jez and follow your comments over there too!)
Just to say that I LOVE this blog and I have learn many great things about being a woman and a feminist. Keep up with excellent work!
Congrats! (You’re the newest addition to my Google reader feeds)
Love this site! Keep up the great work ladies!
Pure lurker here! I usually read everything on Google Reader but I may have to rethink that now that I can’t stop playing with the tag cloud. I love it when “You Have Got To Be Fucking Kidding Me” flies by.
Just echoing earlier comments, because they deserve repetition – impressive stats for such a new blog. Your relative newness explains why when I added you to my RSS feed a couple of a weeks ago I wondered why I hadn’t found you earlier. I hope you keep it up – I’ve already bookmarked several entries in del.icio.us for future reference. (Don’t be surprised when old entries start getting hits from class web sites…)
I’m mainly a lurker as well, only popped in a couple of times to comment. However, I did break out of the ol’ Google Reader to check out the new look- very nice! Keep up the great posts ladies, it really is fascinating to read and has taught me soo much. Thanks!
I am a person who generally can’t stand changes in my routine, so you can imagine my surprise when I found the site this morning and–yes–liked it. Looks fantastic and I’m so glad you are doing so well!
Love the blog, congrats on the successes and keep up the good work!
Looks great you guys!!
I have delurked a few times to leave a comment here and there. I want to congratulate you all on the wonderful job you are doing, especially connecting both academic feminism and everyday realities of feminism.
As Elle said above, please don’t be surprised if some classic entries start getting hits from universities and colleges.
Thank you.
I’m also a lurker, and I too love the site. I check it out every morning after my morning perusal of feministing. You guys both rock!
Congratulations. I love your site, the great writing and the discussion of issues relevant to me. My fave is the overshare, of course – keep up the good work!
Oh yes I forgot to mention: FWIW, this has become my first stop in the morning, overtaking two news sites and a higher-traffic blog.
Kudos! You are all terrific writers and your humanity, integrity, and all-round kick-assness shine through every post. Visiting Harpyness these past few months has been incredibly restorative, going some way to rinse off the residual ickiness that attaches itself while traipsing across much of the interwebs. So on behalf on myself and my mental health, many thanks!
(Also, I’m Australian. So that’s a whole other country you’ve conquered! Wow – a coup I can actually get behind!)
Congrats on the great stats and on three great months! Rarely do I comment, but always are my thoughts provoked. Thank you!
hey ladies, I’d like to take this moment to profess my undying lurv for joo. Your site rocks and I adore the well thought out and intelligent discussions that happen here.
I mostly lurk, but I have to stand up and say how much I LOVE this site. I visit daily. You all make me very happy
Keep up the fantastic work!
Wow. Y’all are making me tear up with all this womanly love. (and not just because I’m having my period and I tend to get teary about now anyway)
Leg HUGZ to all of you!
Some Brit-love here – Congratulations on your monthiversary! I raise a (non-alcoholic) glass in your honour. Thanks for brightening and enlightening many of my days. Keep bringing the harpy!
Congrats and a big thank you for the wonderful work you ladies do! I am now addicted to getting my daily dose of harpyness.
Thanks for the great blog! I only started following feminist blogs a couple of weeks ago. I’ve read feminist literature for years and even blogs, but more sporadically. Recently, though, I joined my friend in writing a feminist blog (in Finnish) and this encouraged me to actually follow the blogosphere a bit more seriously. And you’re blog is great!
There are not that many Finnish blogs about feminism. The problem here is that the athmosphere is: Finland alrady has equality, so there’s nothing to complain about. We try to correct that illusion
Because even though we certainly have it better than some other countries, we still have a long way to go and I can really realte to lot of the issues American bloggers talk about.
So, keep up the good work
I followed you to this here blog from another, and have so far been just a lurker, but thought I’d take the opportunity to introduce myself. So hey there! and nice work…
Hurray for Harpyness! Add me to the voices shouting their praise
I’ve been lurking since almost the beginning, and I love how Harpyness has been so far. Congratulations, and the design is great – it makes the site much easier to navigate!
I found you lovely harpies via Jezebel and oooh man am I glad I did. I love your site and though I have only left one (yes one- I’m the shy type) comment, I really enjoy/love what you bring forth every day and look forward to your wonderfully complex and awesome slant on this crazy world of ours. Keep up the awesome work and thank you from the bottom of my lurky heart!
Hello, lovely lurkers! Thanks for reading, and thanks for popping your heads out, whack-a-mole style (though we promise not to whack you).
It’s great to see new names, and learn that the feminist world is even more populated than we thought.
I lurk online too, so I’m not going to make you comment (you’re not in my classes, so you’re safe for now), but I hope you feel like this is a safe space to ask questions and air views when you’ve got the urge. Harpy hugz to all!
Could you please reinstate the “next / previous entry” links on the individual posts?
Okay I am coming out of the woodwork. Well kinda I found your blog last Friday and have been poking around since. I love it! I look forward to reading future posts!
Wow, you all are doing deservedly well.
*waves* Hi from this Australian. Consider me delurked.
Oooh, pretty. And congratulations!
Been lurking pretty much since the beginning when some one at Feministing linked to you. Thought I’d come out and say hey and thank you all for a great three months!
Keep fighting the good fight
Like Cheriot before me, I’ve been lurking since the Feministing link, and to be honest, I haven’t been back to Feministing much since then. What can I say? I just prefer Harpies! I really appreciate what y’all do and that you’re willing to get personal and honest and say lots of bad words, usually while making me laugh, and almost always making me think.
Hello!
I’m French, a lurker, and hoping to improve my harpyness as well as my English with you lovely ladies. Thank you for your thought-provoking essays. I wish you the best!
Another lurker here, came over from Feministing when they linked to you in a post. I try to pop in every day for some of the great Harpyness! I’m Swedish, so that’s another country to your list, although I’m currently living in the UK so I won’t show my true colours until mid-July!
Go Harpies!
ah, the methadone for those coming off of Jezebel.
I mean that in the nicest way possible
Though I don’t comment terribly often, I still read and that’s half the battle, right?
You’re in my bookmarks page, bonus points!
Thanks, all. Smart posts by witty women. Wonderful.
The new design is lovely, but I’d read ya’ll even if you only had bright yellow text in all caps on a solid black background!
I’m not even sure if I’m kidding…
While I rarely comment, I thoroughly enjoy reading this site and its commenters and I’m here every day! I didn’t really start reading blogs until the election and I can’t tell you how happy it made me to see so many young feminists online expressing themselves. I honestly was feeling like the movement was dead. I work in a very male-dominated field in a lowly position and while my friends and family share most of my views, I’d been starting to feel like a wayward lonely feminazi bitch in a world of Girls Gone Wild until I discovered websites such as this. You are all such excellent writers (my former career; although I do try to freelance) and I’ve found this site to be extremely thought-provoking. And touching. And funny. Thank you, Harpies, for restoring my faith in feminism!
And the new design really is sharp, Pilgram Soul!
::delurks and waves::
I can’t figure out where I found out about you, except that I saw the blog name on someone’s blogroll and just had to click. So far, glad I did.
Sunflower
Just popping in to share the love, if a few days late! Been reading since I saw the link on feministing, love love LOVE you harpies!
Perfect balance of snark & smart.
