erm, Lyndsay, there are boys called that because it is a BOYS name. Its one of the hundreds of boy names that migrated towards girls, like Tracy, Meredith, Holly, Stacy, Lynn, Pearl, Whitney, Alva, Terry, Tori, Shelby, Shirley, Darcy, Shannon, Kelly, Mandy, etc…

I’m actually a guy named Kelly myself (I found this blog when I was doing some searching for something else on the Internet). I like my name and I would love to see more boys with unisex names like mine (I’m 24 so I was born well after the name became more popular for girls). I actually think that Kelly is a good one to try and reclaim if you’re ambitious about returning these kinds of names to boys, since it has declined quite a bit in popularity for girls in recent years.

According to internet name sites, there are boys named Lyndsay but of course it has never crossed over to be a boy’s name.

I’m guessing it’s also more common to slightly change a boy’s name to turn it into a girl’s name than vice versa. I’m guessing Kyle, Eric, and Alexander came before Kyla, Erica and Alexandria. Anyway, I love this post and would love another name post sometime.

I just learned that there is another idiotic baby name: Bandit. The lead singer of a band called My Chemical Romance (never heard their music) named his daughter Bandit.

I give up. I think I’ll go through with my original plan and just name my next child Darth Gollum (of a Lesser God).

How timely…we’re making lists of possible names for the boy-child to be birthed at the end of the summer and one of the troubles I’m having is finding a name that doesn’t scream gender.

Avery is at the top of the list. But now that I’ve discovered it’s a top 20 name, I’m less excited about it. Not because it’s a “girls name,” but because I had hoped to fall in love with something more unusual.

Personal bias; I have an extremely unusual name that is pretty gender ambiguous. My husband’s name is a top 20 boy name though, so he’s less inclined to look for something unique.

Oh, and our son is “Joseph,” which is an increasingly rare name in the US.
