Today is August 26.
Okay, you probably already knew that. But it’s also PapaDork’s birthday, which is nice. I already have reason to celebrate, but since none of you know my dad, I’ll give you an even better one.
Today is Women’s Equality Day! On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified, granting women the right to vote. 51 years later, then-Representative Bella Abzug (D-New York) ushered a resolution through Congress to make August 26th Women’s Equality Day, to recognize the importance of women’s suffrage, and to serve as a reminder for the work still to be done.
Although I’ll be happier when every day is Women’s Equality Day, I’ll still be thinking about the gains that have been made, and those that are possible.
You can read the entirety of the resolution at Wikipedia.
Feminist Fist Bump!

FIST BUMP! And fist bumps to Bella Abzug, who is undoubtedly still wearing her hat and chatting up Teddy Kennedy right now.
Of course, here at Harpyness, EVERY DAY is Women’s Equality Day. Because that’s how we roll.
FEMINIST FIST BUMP.
I like that… “Of course, here at Harpyness, EVERY DAY is Women’s Equality Day. Because that’s how we roll.”
You all, often, make my day!
And I thank you ever so much for it. I’m counting on this blog to help keep me sane, and mentally stimulated while I’m home on maternity leave.
