PSA: How You Can Fight the Man Today

Posted by Pilgrim Soul in Thoughts on Sep 26, 2009, 2:23pm | 6 comments

Some of you, I know, have migrated here from other feminist websites and/or Gawker media, and as a result, we think you are familiar with a personage we’ll call Mucker Tax, in the interests of keeping his hordes of internet fans from alighting on our fair shores via Google.  Mucker Tax is basically the paradigmatic assweasel, who uses the term “cum dumpster” without even a soupçon of irony.  His targets of ridicule include the fat, the blind, the sex worker – oh, he’s a very brave young man.

Anyway Mucker Tax and his idiot posse have been plastering posters around NYC lately in anticipation of his new book-to-movie (fuck I hate Hollywood) which we’ll just say is entitled something akin to “Hell is Too Good For the Likes of You.”  These posters are universally offensive and dumbass, as one might expect.  In Chicago, the city took them off bussess after popular protest.  In NYC the posters have mostly appeared in non-regulated places like construction sites.

I have become aware of a group that is organizing an effort to “creatively deface” these illegal posters, something I would encourage just about anyone to do.  (One douchebag at a time.)  But if you’d like to help them out, they’d like reports of where the posters are.  So if you are in NYC and see them, email me at pilgrimsoul@harpyness.com – I’ll pass along the info.

    i stumbled upon this book at books-a-million a few years ago, allured by the title. i was appalled by the stories in this book. i’m all for free speech, right? but the fact that this guy is getting praised for this shit (including getting a fucking MOVIE DEAL!?!) completely shows you “how far we’ve come” as a society-not very fucking far.

    ::shakes head::

    If I see any here, I’ll be happy to exercise my right to free speech. Until then, PS and others, feel free to exercise it for me!

    There was a good piece in the WaPo (wish I could remember who wrote it) last Sunday about him…and the women who love him. Such a sad state of American popular feminism that he’s deified for being an asshole. Maybe we should be glad that he doesn’t hide behind the illusion of the good guy?

    I don’t live in NYC, so can’t help with the defacing, but as with Mischief…feel free to act on my behalf.

    Mucker Tax and “Hell is Too Good For the Likes of You” just made me lurve you even more, PS, and I wasn’t sure that was possible!

    If anyone in NYC sees any of these creatively defaced posters, please, please take pictures!

    Credit for those should go to PhDork, Lucy, not me.

    The generic ads are still showing up on buses in Chicago – it’s just the super offensive ones that were taken down from what I’ve seen. You roll past enough of them on any given bus route anyway.

    Maybe it is time for me to drag out the permanent markers and editorialize a bit. How illegal can it be to deface illegally posted ads?
