No Sex, Please, We’re Sex-Positive Feminists

Posted by BeckySharper in Thoughts, Bitch Magazine, Celibacy, Feminism, Sex on Sep 30, 2009, 7:04pm | one comments

2977008325_ba8e8f8c69_oIn this latest post from Bed, Bitch and Beyond blog at Bitch Magazine, I wanted to let readers get the last word on the “Is No Sex Sex-Positive?” post. Between Bitch, Facebook, Harpyness and e-mails I received, it was clear that plenty of women have strong opinions about not having sex, and why/whether conscious celibacy is an inherently feminist or sex-positive decision. (Special shout-out to Harpyness readers Mackey and wondering, whose comments I used in this post).

Read on for more…including discussions of masturbation, asexuality, and the Kardashian sisters.

One Response to “No Sex, Please, We’re Sex-Positive Feminists”

I think that [conscious celibacy and sex positivity] are not polar opposites, instead puts the idea of a person’s bodily autonomy and integrity in the forefront of human sexuality and pleasure (regardless of sex and gender)… without privileging one form or type, and othering those do not conform.

What she said. I consider myself very sex-positive, yet I am currently practicing conscious celibacy for various reasons. My body is MINE: it doesn’t belong to Feminists or Conservatives or Humanists or Whatever. It belongs to ME.
