On September 25, she stood up to Sen. John Kyl (R-AZ) before the Senate Finance Committee, giving the best “your mom” comeback in recent memory. A few days later, she shot down Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) when he proposed increased restrictions on abortion in the health care bill, telling him she was insulted, as a woman. Luckily, both amendments failed.
Stabenow made history in 2000 when she became the first woman to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate. She is fighting the good fight on behalf of women and children, and deserves our kudos. If you are so inclined, thank Sen. Stabenow and let her know you appreciate her advocacy.

Oooh, thanks for that link. I am going to send her some love and support right now.
She is awesome! I’ve never met her but I know several people who have (while working on various Michigan political causes) and they all say how genuinely nice she is.
Done. I wish we could get more Democratic Senators like her out there. A little more spine in the Democratic party would be a good thing.
Great suggestion! I was so thrilled when I heard her say this but I didn’t think to do anything about it. I called her office just now and sent an email to all of my relatives in Michigan to do the same.
I actually met Debbie Stabenow this past election season at a rally here in Michigan. All I can say is that I absolutely appreciate what she said and what she’s doing for the Senate. You go girl!
I just got the estimate from my OB, and my health insurance (individual policy), which had a 20% premium increase, now only covers 70% of my prenatal care after the (huge) deductible. Gosh, I sure wish someone would reform health insurance.
Thank goodness for Senator Stabenow, who keeps me from sinking into a pit of complete despair.
The comments at The Hill are fucking depressing.
