If you haven’t done it already, let me invite–nay, harangue–you to click over to Planned Parenthood and sign the petition against the Stupak Amendment and its clones. (How much do I love that the guy’s name sounds like an insult? “Whatta stupak amendment.” “Don’t be such a stupak.”)
Thus far, PP has collected over 100,000 signatures, but today, Orrin Hatch (R-Utah0 and Ben Nelson (D-NE) (<–UGH) will introduce a Stupak-like amendment to the health care reform bill currently before the Senate. Such an amendment is going to severely curtail women’s right to legal abortion (yep, still legal!), but also endanger their reproductive health in general by limiting the full range of services needed.
Go sign, at least, but also consider calling your Senators, spreading the word through social networking sites, talking it up with your family and friends, or donating to PP or other worthy causes.
I also recommend this primer from PP, if you’re finding all this health care bidness a bit messy and overwhelming.
Hop to it!

For the House vote, I called my rep and e-mailed and he voted for it anyway (grrrr) and now I’m not going to vote for him any more. I’ve been calling Casey with some regularity — as a known “pro-life Democrat”, he’s under a lot of pressure from anti-choice lobbying groups to not only vote for Stupak-esque language but to introduce it and sponsor it. So any other Pennsylvanians — Bob Casey is vulnerable to pressure and we need to make sure he listens to us over PACs from outside the state.
Done.
Done, and fb picture and status changed.
I try very hard not to be prejudiced about other people’s religions, but when I see the Church fathers (sic) stroll into Congress, issue orders and sit back and watch as elected officials march in lockstep, I get very, very angry.
“Whatta stupak amendment.” Is that the best we can do? It’s so fourth grade.
Ciara: Who’s “we”? You got a mouse in your pocket? If my “fourth grade” joke–which was intended a total throwaway, not The Last Word in Urbane Wit–is unacceptable, you can come up with your own. It’s not important. The point of the post was to get readers to sign the PP petition.
Wow, PhDork. Must be that time of the month. Or maybe I just forgot I was on the Harpy station.
@Ciara – “Must be that time of the month”? Is that the best we can do? It’s so fourteen year old boy.
Thank you for playing, Ciara. You might consider looking up “hoisted with his own petard.” Bye now.
(b: hee hee! I raise my glass to you.)
