Information in the last paragraph is false. Her husband went to debtor's prison because originally they were financially sound, but then she shifted businesses (as he often did) and they aquired economic problems. However, by this time,Phillis had only one living child. She gave birth to three, but the first two died shortly after childbirth due to frail health like hers. Her child had grown already when she died, and they (again) were both in frail health. The despair of seeing her mother dead could have also contributed to the death of the third child. Susanna and John both died before Phillis married John, and Mary (daughter) died very soon after John, right before Phillis and her husband released a legal notice of their intent to marry.
(I don't want to offend anyone, but I don't want anyone getting flse information either :) )

There's a beautiful children's book written about Phillis Wheatley called Phillis's Big Test, by Catherine Clinton. I read it to my third grade students this year, and they cheered at the end of it, which was very cute. She's fascinating.

True. Although you never know, she could have found another benefactor. However, like many slave manuscripts that were published, you never would know what was edited and where. I recently listened to this (from a couple years ago but was re-aired) and it is fascinating.
