Gentle readers, I am in transit hell.
After an evening flight back from beautiful Udaipur, I arrived in smoggy, foggy Delhi in time to have dinner, catch two hours of sleep, and check in for my 3:30 AM (yes, AM) flight to London. I was going to be home in New York by now–ready to share pictures and stories about my trip.
But after four hours of sitting on the tarmac, the flight was cancelled. The fog was too thick–not so much pea soup as a cement wall–and all flights were grounded. We were herded off the plane and back into the terminal–whose power flickers on and off in an endless dance of electricity-backup generator-electricity–and after a couple hours standing in an exhausted herd in a long hallway outside baggage claim, sent to a local hotel.
It is 5:20 PM in Delhi. I have gotten about 5 hours sleep in the last 36 hours. Theoretically, I will be on a 10:30 AM flight to Heathrow tomorrow–if the (truly Hitchcockian) fog burns off. No word yet about whether they’ve rebooked me on a flight to New York once I get there.
So please, add your supplications to mine: Lord Ganesha, remover of obstacles, and Garuda, winged transport of Lord Vishnu, help me get out of Delhi!

Oh, you poor thing. Weather obstacles are utterly frustrating. I hope yours have run their course.
If you’re not too tired and cranky, tell me-what have you learned about India? I’ve been reading Indian fiction recently and have just started a history of the country, about which I know very little. I’d be interested in your perspective.
Becky, I am sending good travel vibes your way! What a mess!
Disaster! Here’s hoping you and your luggage get back to New York in one piece, and soon!
Egad. I hope they make klonopin lassis at the Oberoi. Sleep when you can, and when you get home, let me know what sort of noms I should drop by.
my hatred of air travel is one of the things keeping me from traveling to cool places. Good Luck!
Jai Ganesha, get Becky home safely.
