A new study out of Australia argues that beautiful women “cause” men to engage in risky-behaviors.
According to an article in the Daily Fail, this was “proven” by observing the actions of a group of young skateboarders under the surveillance of, variously, men (whose attractiveness was not commented upon), and “good-looking” women.
The primary investigator, Professor Bill von Hippel, doesn’t stop at the point of saying “the data show that young men are more likely to take risks when in the presence of young women than in that of other young men,” he goes on to claim, with no little certainty, that this behavior is a strategy intended to woo the sweetest bits of ladyflesh into the risk-takers’ beds. His claim is not based in statements made by the skaters themselves, but rather in their testosterone levels, which are apparently the Prime Mover. “Historically, men have competed with each other for access to fertile women and the winners of those competitions are the ones who pass on their genes to future generations,” says von Hippel.
The article neglects to say if we have a history of the “winning” men’s testosterone levels, and if we know that such levels directly corresponds to “reproductive success.” (PEE ESS WE DON’T.)
Interesting, how these studies seem to “prove” every hackneyed gender cliche out there:
1. Dudes, who are all hetero, live to spread their seed.
2. High-T men are more likely to reproduce, as they are manly manly men!
3. Yet, elevated testosterone levels, which are the fault of those extremely fatale femmes fatales, put men at risk for dangerous behaviors.
4. Ergo, women are to blame for men’s actions, which one could extend to sexual aggression towards women.
Everybody wins! No, wait, I mean everyone loses. Or at least women lose. You’re pretty? It’s your fault. You’re not? You should do something about that.
Do we need more studies predicated on the idea that everything everyone ever does is to make babies? And where “everyone” almost exclusively means “straight dudes”?
