This week the British government barred Chris Brown from entering the UK to perform. As you remember, Brown pleaded guilty last year to a felony charge of assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna. With no work visa, his shows in England and Scotland have been cancelled.
Brown was reportedly denied entry because of his record of domestic violence.
A British Home Office official told CNN that “because of his felony charge, it might not be a very good idea” to allow Brown into the country.
…”We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offense,” said Barbara Woodward, director of the UK border agency’s international group. “Public safety is one of our primary concerns.”
In a Twitter message, Brown responded, saying:
“U ever feel like the storm clouds are too thick for any sunshine to get through? think ima go away!!!!”
Please do, asshole.

While I’m happy about this decision, it would mean more if the UK didn’t keep allowing convicted rapist Mike Tyson to come and visit…

This is awesome.
I just hate that it shocked me.
More fuel for his self-pity.
So much ego, so little empathy.
Yes Chris, it’s all about accountability. So says the NYS Model Batterer’s program.
I’m really hoping that he’s not the “sunshine” in his little twitter scenario.
Ha ha motherfuckingha. Also, can I say how much I hate that tweeting is consideered a legitimate form of response? Grumble grumble.
~for a fleeting moment, chest swells with British pride~
Feel it Betty! One small step for safe women…
Well done, UK — yes, it IS a serious crime!
I think that there is a race component of this that is being ignored. My question is would the british goverment bar Martin Sheen? I also has a history of domestic violence and his most recent ‘alleged’ assault on his wife was around the same time as chris brown’s abuse of rihanna. I’m not saying I disagree with the decision I disagree that it’s not an across the board rule. Regardless of race.
@ meshinda – Do you mean Charlie Sheen? My google skills can’t find anything on Martin Sheen being convicted on a domestic violence charge.
Below is a link to a article about 16 people who were banned publicly from Britain last year as a result of their behavior. They tend to be more extreme (socially anyways) then Chris Brown, but I wanted to point this out in response to the race being an issue comment. I hope that had nothing to do with it!

@meshinda: I think you mean Charlie Sheen. Check out the list of people “banned in Britain” that Lindsay just linked to—there’s no shortage of white folks on it. And while I usually don’t believe in comparing incidents of domestic violence—as all d.v. is serious—Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna was much more brutal, and he was charged with a more serious felony than Charlie Sheen. I just mention that because there may be some kind of legal yardstick that the Home Office uses when denying visas.
