Gentle readers, posting will be light for the next few days as the five of us again adjourn en masse—with dudes and dawgs in tow—to the Harpy Beach House.
Things we will be doing instead of posting:
* Grilling
* Reading
* Porch-sitting
* ‘Smores-making
* Beer-drinking
* Eating PhDork’s homemade pickles
* Swimming, boogie-boarding and lying on the beach.
We will return to our regularly scheduled boner-killing early next week.

Votre perfectionniste francophone amicale est ici pour dire que c’est LA plage. C’est bien féminine! Et en plus, c’est femmes courantES. Ne soyez pas dominées par la patriarchie des langues avec des genres fixés!
(Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
Ok so I know the whole point of the Internet is that I can look things up but please, please someone explain to me what ‘Smores are. It has bugged me for years (although obviously not enough to look it up as I am lazy).
Emilyanne: it’s short for ‘some mores’ because you won’t be able to stop at one. It’s two graham crackers with marshmallow (usually toasted) and chocolate inside. Sounds disgusting but is actually pretty good, although the last time I had one was when I was about 10 years old.
Have fun at Harpy House, everyone!
Jealous all the way around! Have fun, y’all. Boners will breathe a sigh of relief while you’re absent.
Endora, thank you. Yes it does sound utterly vile.
Have fun stormin’ the castle!
Have a nice time!
Cat I feel really happy b/c I was able to puzzle out what you said!
Sounds like fun. Don’t worry about me (as if…lol). I’ll busy myself combing through the archives for all the stuff I missed before stumbling upon this site earlier this week.
E.N.J.O.Y!!
Oh! @ Emilyanne, ‘Smores are delicious!! Give ‘em a try
Yes indeed, s’mores are good stuff. I fondly remember making them over Bunsen burners in high school chem class—as part of an experiment on limiting reactants! (Really!)
All pedantry from my first post aside, have a wonderful time!!
I’m going to need that pickle recipe…if that isn’t an automatic suspension of my feminism card?
Have fun!
Have Fun! Beach time is required. We’ll survive without you! (And have several s’mores for me, too.)
@Cat: You’re right, of course, about la plage. Although the actual title of the painting is “Deux Femmes Courant Sur La Plage”. Which, as our native Francophone Michelle points out, is likely due to the fact that “Picasso’s French probably wasn’t so good.”
@emilyanne: ‘Smores are delish. Although personally I forego the graham crackers altogether and often the chocolate and just eat the toasted marshmallow. I can’t get enough of toasty, melty marshmallow.
It makes me inordinately happy to think that a buncha harpies get together for vacation. It’s like the opposite of fox news, or something.
You guys look hot in that picture.
I really like to substitute peeps for the marshmallows in “smores” they have a very smooth texture when they melt and setting bunnies on fire is extra added fun.
Y’all have a good time.
@Cat, Becky:
FWIW, I think the reason it’s ‘courant’ rather than ‘courantes’ is probably because it’s a gerund, i.e. ‘two women running on the beach’ rather than ‘two running women on the beach’. N’est-ce pas?
Thanks, bluebears. Our beach uniform is to have one tit hanging out at all times.
gherkinfiend, they’re dill pickles. I’ll send you the (absurdly super-) easy recipe if you want it.
@PhDork – with one tit hanging out, can I also assume that you all will be sporting suitable non-patriarchy approved hair in places that you don’t see in the patriarchy sanctioned pictures of women?
Have fun harpies.. At the moment I wish for beach weather.
@emilyanne – I too didn’t know what ‘smores were either. glad you asked.
@Mackey: Since I am too lazy to do much more than a cursory deforestation of the nether regions, yes, there will probably be some non-patriarchy approved hair making an appearance too.
@Becky – I nearly fell off my chair when I read that
If you haven’t done so yet, dearest Harpies, try smores with the mini Rolos or a Reeses peanut butter cup instead of the usually Hershey bar, HEAVEN!!!
Sounds like a wonderful. I particularly like the reading, smore’s making and beer drinking parts…but really, all of it!
