I didn’t realize it until this morning, but today is Friday the 13th. Although most people are less than thrilled about this conjunction, I love it. For reasons that I can’t quite explain, I love Fridays-the-13th. I like to think of it as a lucky day for me. Part of it is due to the fact that my birthday is on the 13th, and I’ve had some great birthdays, and part of it is probably a bit of contrarianism. And, I’m sure, because I could use some really good luck right now.
I’ve said before that I’m really un-religious (I regard religions as largely made up of superstitions), but I do believe in–or, more correctly, act like I believe in–some completely illogical, woo-woo things: I cross my fingers when I’m waiting for an outcome, I make a wish when the clasp on the necklace I’m wearing works its way around to touch the pendant in front, and I occasionally read Rob Brezny’s horoscope for Aries. It might all be bullshit, but wishing on stars is harmless, right?
So, for today’s FFT, tell us about your superstitions. Do you throw spilled salt over your shoulder? Knock wood? Avoid black cats, or carefully step over sidewalk cracks to protect your mom’s spine? What, if any, weird individual superstitions do you hold?
