Well, not quite yet, maybe. But it’s coming. MamaDork started her (final!) year as a teacher last week, the Dude’s family is on the cusp, and I’ve been hammering out revised syllabi, cleaning and re-arranging my office in anticipation of what might be my last year as a teacher.
I’ve been operating on an academic schedule my entire life. Even the few years I worked outside of the academy, our activities were built on a calendar that took “fall” as the beginning of a new cycle. As far as I’m concerned, the year starts in September (or late August), not January.
And I’ve only got one week left to get everything in tip-top shape so I’m ready to kick the year off right: I have to have all the laundry done, the house cleaned, the pantry and fridge stocked with tasty things I can throw together for lunch and dinner.*
I’ve already mentioned that I won’t be doing any back-to-school shopping this year, which is usually part of the ritual preparation, but I might cruise through a Staples just to huff the new notebooks and fondle packages of pens.
So you know what the FFT is: what are/were your back-to-school rituals? A final weekend at the beach? A new lunch box?
