Well, everyday. But especially today, October 20, which is NOW’s Love Your Body Day.
Now I know you already love some things about your body–re-read that thread, if you need a reminder–but beyond that, even if you’re having a blah day, where nothing feels like it fits, or the weather is screwing up your beautiful locks, remember all the amazing things your body does for you every day.
Whenever I eat cheese (or really, anything), I think how amazing it is that my body has taste buds that allow me to enjoy wonderful flavors. Whenever I take the subway stairs two-at-a-time, I rejoice that my knees and quads and butt are still making it happen. My body takes me places, can haul heavy loads, and loves sinking unto a soft couch. It heals from cat scratches and gives me orgasms. All too often, I forget that my body is not just the thing that carries my brain around. It is, however flawed, a marvelous thing.
So I’m going to go out of my way today to thank my soft animal self for all the work and play it allows me. I’m gonna give it pie for breakfast, put it in my favorite ass-kickin’ boots, and swing it around a bit. I’m going to go outside on the ferry and feel the wind on it. And after I come home, I’m going to give it a nice meal, maybe some wine, and have a hot bath. I might take this body and put it near the beloved body of my favorite Dude. And I’m going to go out of my way to compliment people who are rockin’ their own amazing bodies, whatever their shapes, sizes, or abilities.
NOW has a page of things you can do to honor the day and honor your fabulous body. What are you celebrating?
