Although I’ve just finished all my required job-related duties this morning, I’ve still got approximately eleventeen irons on the fire. So, in lieu of a proper post on any one topic, a series of links to things I’ve read recently and would love to tear into with y’all:
First: Gail Collins on John Boehner. Basically, IOKIYAR (and a dude).
Second: Hot on the heels of the student protests in London, University of Puerto Rico students are speaking out and marching against rising fees and falling opportunities.
Third: In case you need to calibrate your rage-ometer, a story about how NY’s Finest are juking the stats when it comes to rape and sexual assault.
Fourth: For a ray of hope…the European Court of Human Rights has decided that banning abortion violates women’s human rights.
Any links you want to share? Drop ‘em in comments, and we’ll watch the mod queue.

Am currently enjoying this fluffy video over at the Hairpin. It’s a ladybug playing with sprinkles. I dunno why, but it makes me feel better after all the shitty things that have been in the news lately.
Love that link, Hilary, if only for the chance to think about why someone thought “Awww, a lady bug. You know what it needs? SPRINKLES! Also, let me get my camera!” Also love it after all the crap news coming out of Congress lately.
I was pretty heartened by the ECHR ruling – only one of the three plaintiffs won, but it’s probably the best we could have hoped for.
It’s probably going to be forever before Irish law changes (and even then they’re only obliged to clarify in what life-threatening circumstances abortion is permissible) – so until then, may I suggest the fabulous Abortion Support Network which funds women who have to come over to the UK for abortion.
Okay, plug over – sorry!
