I too was enraged by the "Why Now?" quotes. I'd like to know when the hell IS a good time to stop treating a segment of our population like 2nd class citizens.

And frankly, I expect more. More than just "we won't enforce that part of DOMA".

The NY Times article quotes some republicans who are all, "Why now? Everyone in America is worried about economics, not social policies. Why is the president wasting our time with this? And our money? And our political energies?"

And I thought I had gotten past that whole blind rage thing, and that my antidepressants and meditative walking with my dog and focusing on the good things had gotten me to a point where I wouldn't feel vomity when I read stuff like this, and wouldn't get that hot feeling of rage and violent frustration behind my eyes the way I always used to when I read the paper. But I was apparently wrong.

It has to be one of the most infuriating things I've ever--ever--read by a republican. I was like, "Whu? What!? Planned parenthood! Rape! Abortion laws! What the fuck is the matter with you people?!" Because this is the president saying that they're not going to spend their energy defending it, that this will no longer be an issue for them. It's exactly, precisely the opposite of focusing on the issue, it is precisely refusing to deal with it and instead to basically ignore it. Which is, incidentally, the exact opposite of what the republicans are doing about all kinds of social issues.

Blind rage. I swear.
