I refuse to call you by the proper title, which includes Honorable, because there is nothing honorable about giving a conditional sentence (no jail time) to a rapist because you felt that the woman’s dress and choice of public behavior was inappropriate. Nor does it signal that “sex was in the air”….and “clumsy Don Juan”? REALLY?!
You make me ashamed to live in this sad province I already hate. You make me ashamed of the justice system. I am ashamed of the attention you are attracting (necessary as it is) and I feel sorry for any future women who will inevitably end up in your courtroom. You should be ashamed of yourself. Justice officials like you are the reason I never reported.
With all due respect, sir, go fuck yourself. I hope this taints you for the rest of your life.

What an asshat.
With men like this so-called judge, sex is always in the air. And women pay the price.
Total fuckwit, that one. And it’s heartening to see how universal the outrage has been here in Canadialand.
His judgement seems to be having the opposite effect of what he perhaps intended. Rather than reinforcing rape culture, people I know with moderate run-of-the-mill rape apologist attitudes (i.e. “She shouldn’t have been doing/drinking/wearing/whatever that “She should be more responsible” etc.) are questioning their own attitudes. It’s a horrifying case and a ludicrous judgement, but the response reassures me that all is not lost for humanity.
i want to do more than just register my horror about this judge…. where can i write to, who can i speak to, how can we STOP this kind of shit for once and for all????

Unfortunately there’s not much we can do in regards to this specific judge, but the blogosphere surprisingly lit up about this case. So the more noise, the more awareness I guess.
Sorry I can’t say something more intelligent, this case still has me in the dumps.

I’m not sure how similar the Canadian and American systems are for appointing judges but is this something where locals can follow up and either demand his removal or at least make sure he’s not appointed/promoted in future?
