Hey there, muchachas. I’ve been mostly AWOL this week, between trying to keep a handle all the political shit flying around the globe and around the labor and gender issues I care about, teaching, dealing with truly copious amounts of cat effluvia, and revising a 250+ page manuscript. Things are going to be hectic for me for about another month, but this week just made me want to crawl extra-far under the bed.
So I got nothin’. No links, no larfs. (Okay, one link.) Just a feeble explanation for my absence and a request that you hang in, maybe keep each other entertained for spell, and know that I’m not trying to be an asshole.

I keep hoping spring will help…
Oh man, I can totally do this. Things that are awesome!:

I keep hoping spring will help, too, and then I remember that spring is when the populace goes bonkers and I have to work a festival every weekend. ;A;
Yeah, fuck this extra-long winter and fuck the cold I seem to be getting and fuck the Koch brothers and fuck the fact that Borders bookstore are closing all over the country…just FUCK IT.
Although on a hopeful note, the bulbs I planted in front of my building are starting to come up, which makes me very happy every time I walk out the door in the morning.
Okay, how about this for a grin? http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2011/02/25/anonymous-takes-down-god-hates-fags-church-websites/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Pinknews+%28Pink+News%29
@Becky: Your mom hasn’t called you to gloat about our 50-something degree weather down here today? If she hasn’t, consider this comment my picking up the slack.
I’m with you on the winter thing. Tomorrow morning is going to be -40 C with the windchill…..
Be careful what you wish for about spring. Spring showed up here a week or so ago and now everybody and everything is crashing. It’s horrible. First my son ran his dad’s car into the side of the garage and his own car, taking out the washing machine in the process. Then someone turned left in front of him and he t-boned their car on his bicycle (he’s okay), and my husband’s buddy crashed his bicycle in front of a car and was badly hurt. Luckily he will recover. Still there were more crashes: the cats got so excited to see the squirrels come back that they slammed into a desk lamp and almost set the house on fire (really, there’s a charred hole in the lampshade). Said squirrels found my just-blooming cauliflower in the garden and ate it all. My laptop won’t boot and there’s two weeks of work on it not backed up. By the time I snapped the chef’s knife in half last night, all I could do was laugh. This week needs to be OVER.
Good lord, clairedamit. Have a better week next week!
Rhubarb has come in at my grocery store, and it is a taste of spring.
Here is my 3 generation family recipe for rhubarb cake.
Here it is:
1/2 C butter
1 1/2 C brown sugar
1 egg
1 C buttermilk or sour milk (I do the vinegar in milk thing)
1 t. vanila
2 C flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 1/2 to 3 C chopped rhubard (larger than diced)
Mix in the usual way. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 pan.
Sprinkle on the top 1/3 C white sugar mixed with 1 t. cinnamon.
Optional – also sprinkle with 1/2 C chopped walnuts
Bake @ 350 for 45 minutes.
Do not wrap tightly for overnight storage, it will get too soggy. I
just lay plastic wrap over the top but don’t press the edges down.
Dorkie, this one is for you:

Took me a while to recover from my own funk this week. But this helped a bit. A video for all my fellow grad school denizens. By the same guy who wrote a book on “…Your Stupid Stupid Decision to go to Grad School”. (I don’t remember the rest of the name of the book.)
