I really wish that there was a harpy feminist history book, with lots of information about amazing feminist women who have done amazing things.

I did not know anything about Shirley Chisholm, and it’s fantastic to know a little about the first black woman elected to the US house of representatives.

It’s a frenzy of activity over here at the Disestablishment, but I need to shout out; “Yay Shirley!” Her bravery in the face of vitriol and attempts on her life, her positivity, her accomplishments, her determination- totally awesome. 1972. (And her years of public service well before that in elected office.) Yeah!

Second the nomination. Thanks, PhDork! I heart SC, she rocks the party.

There’s an excellent documentary about her, “Chisolm ’72: Unbought and Unbossed.” It’s a great intro to her political positions and personality for those who don’t know about her.

Chisolm got chumped by SF’s own creep Willie Brown, who sold her out for a better place at the trough. I really wish she’d been elected. I have the feeling things would definitely be different (in a better way) if she had been.
