King has said of the Congressional hearings on Muslim radicals, “If I had made this about the Christian right or militia movements, I doubt there would have been this knee-jerk reaction [accusing him of bigotry].”

Aside from your points, I’m not so sure he’s even right in the first place. Right wing Christians are pretty quick to claim bigotry against themselves.

Hm. And by doing so to expel or annex the majority of Northern Ireland’s population (whose roots there were as deep as anyone else’s).

@MonkeyShines: "Rational", is a very subjective term in that context. Hezbollah, Hamas, the PLO and every other Islamic terror organization would tell you that their goals are rational and liberative, too. And even if you personally think the IRA's goals were rational, surely you're not saying that excuses their many decades of terrorism and murder of civilians? I think it's very hard to argue that the ends justified the means. As for Timothy McVeigh, he was raised Catholic and deeply influenced by the radical Christian Identity Movement, as were his co-conspirators. See this link for more on that. I think it's entirely accurate to call him Christian.

Don’t like Peter King, but there is an important distinction. The IRA whatever their tactics has the relatively rational goal of uniting Ireland. Al Qaeda has the very irrational longterm goal of forcing the entire world to convert to Islam or at least submit to Sharia law. A national liberation cause is fundamentally different from an internationals theocratic one. (For this reason I also think it is incorrect to compare the PLO to Al Qaeda)

Also, I don’t believe that it is correct to refer to Timothy McVeigh as a Christian terrorist. As I recall he regarded himself as an agnostic.
