I heard a great interview today on Democracy Now that said the workers who died in a factory fire in Dhara Bangladesh last year made 1/10 of what the women in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory made (inflation factored in). One Tenth! One hundred years later! Clearly there's still a need for worker's rights advocates. Google Democracy Now! and triangle shirtwaist factory fire to see the whole interview.

Rodriguez, you're exactly OT. This is the reality we'd live in if it were up to them. It's not just contracts they want to get rid of.

This reminds me of Tea Party politics, somehow. Sorry to be mildly OT.

Is it that part of the current problem in the US regarding labor relations comes from this originalist, worshipful attitude on the right towards the founding fathers and their (imagined) positions on things?

Corporate entities almost didn't exist at the end of the 1700's. For those who think the founding fathers solved all of our issues for us, there's no frame of reference. A casual tea party sympathizer can't look to what thinkers circa 1780 were doing and saying. The easiest thing is to mark the whole enterprise as "wrong" and "to be opposed".

Or am I reducing something more subtle?
