Hey, everybody. Today, in less than an hour on my campus, and on more than 200 campuses around the US, activist-academics Frances Fox Piven and Cornel West are heading up a live-streamed Teach-In “On Austerity, Debt, Corporate Greed, and What YOU Can Do About It.”
If you’ve sorta kinda got an idea of what’s been going on in Wisconsin (or Indiana, or…), or if you’re wondering why people (like me) keep posting links to clips of Anthony Weiner on the floor of the US House of Representative, or if you keep thinking “why are we still talking about ‘austerity’ as a legitimate approach to the economy? Isn’t that just supply-side economics, AKA Reaganomics, AKA trickle-down economics, AKA voodoo economics?” (Yes, yes it is. Bullshit then, bullshit now.) Are you asking “why is Congress spending so much time on social engineering and depriving people of their rights, rather than working on job creation?”
Then please, tune in at a campus near you, show up at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan, or just dial up the live-streaming webcast here and sign in as a guest. I’ll be watching and thinking about what I/we can do, and try to follow up with a post later this week.

Austerity=Repugspeak for Our enemies will suffer and our friends will prosper.
Hey Teabaggers,
If you let us lift the cap on Social Security, we’ll repeal Godwin’s Law. Then you can draw all the Obama/Hitler comic books you want (in front of the Washington Monument and everything!) with complimentary Fruit Rollups and rub-on flag tattoos provided in the mid-afternoon.
If you need us, we’ll be counting our tax revenue.
Please post your thoughts about the teach-in. I was at work and our internet security settings wouldn’t let me log in to watch it.
kl, I will, after I watch the whole thing. The livestream I was watching crapped out about halfway through–apparently there were tech problems like whoa, and a lot of people who wanted to watch couldn’t. Very frustrating. There is a brief clip of Piven on YouTube here.
