A friend of mine has a pseophologist blog called "The Tally Room", and he has a couple of posts about the Canadian election.

Have a look at this one about the rise of the NDP here:

Guys, the NDP numbers keep going up and up. The pollsters and pundits are using words like "unprecedented" - gaining 18 points over the course of an election campaign has never happened here. Monday will be very, very tense, and exciting!

It's sickly amusing that the "Liberal media" meme sticks, even though the Nat Post, Globe and Mail, Sun media, CTV, Globe, etc are all solid Conservative backers. They are, after all, corporate entities. They know who butters their bread.

(Although of course individual journalists may be quite progressive, the editorial slant of the paper can definitely twist that around fast.)

wondering, thanks for pointing out the globe endorsement... and just when I started to feel positively about that paper.

Marie, I really enjoyed this article. I actually have the privilege of deciding where to vote, since I technically live in two ridings right now. One is staunchly NDP, the first NDP riding I've lived in, and the other is one of the 33 swing ridings, this one between the libs and the tories. I think this time I will have to suck it up and vote Liberal, knowing that my NDP candidate will win. but it breaks my heart not to support them with my vote.

I have nothing substantial to say other than:

- Thank you for writing this! The more publicity the better.

- Go Jack Go!

(Did you see that the Globe and Mail just endorsed the Conservatives? (for what, the 3rd time in a row?) Their comments section just exploded in outrage. A joy to see. Not that it will kill the "Liberal media" meme.)

I live in a riding that always goes Liberal, so I will vote my conscience and vote for the NDP. I have done the strategic voting thing before when I lived in a riding where there was a close Liberal/Conservative split, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm glad that I don't feel obligated to do it again.

I was particularly impressed with Layton in the English leadership debates for bringing up the issue of violence against women in Canada, and highlighting the absolutely appalling rates of violence directed at First Nations women.

I'm just happy that my riding is a split riding between a sitting Conservative MP and an NDP candidate who lost by less than 10% last election... not only is voting with my conscience in perfect alignment with voting strategically, but the NDP could conceivably win this seat!
