I was on the Guardian site and they are indeed suggesting that the woman was a prostitute. I don’t see that on any US sites yet.

@BeckySharper I hear you on timing of the NYC rape cops getting away with it.

It’s just so fucking scary. It’s like an EMT raping you instead of treating you when you’re in their ambulance.

Them getting away with it was around the same time as the DSK rape story broke, and I felt it was so hypocritical to be lauding the NYPD for nabbing a rapist and yet patting each other on the backs for getting away with it. It’s notoriously hard, even in comparison to other cops, to get any charges to stick to an NYPD officer.

But we know rape prosecutions aren’t a matter of evidence. Silly women, expecting to be treated fairly by the “justice” system.

Oh FFS, if contact with criminals, committing crimes or not being entirely truthful at all times ‘immunised’ women against being raped, then there would be an epidemic of women breaking the law and bullshitting to protect themselves for life. The fact there isn’t suggests that, shock horror, these things don’t really stop rapes from happening, unless you keep all the rapists under lock and key.

Also you are at the mercy of what you are asked by police and prosecutors. I wasn’t asked some stuff, didn’t think of it myself and it written up in the report with the suggestion that I was lying by omission and unreliable. But at the same time when I was voluntarily honest about having taken drugs the night I was raped, my honesty was used to make me look unreliable. I couldn’t win and I had more power than this woman does…

I have been so incensed by the latest coverage. If you lie you can’t have been raped? On what planet?! They have PROOF of sexual contact. Who has the power and the money? DSK. And he has a history. Aaaand I just don’t get why everyone is all “she lied about some other stuff unrelated to the rape, so it couldn’t have been rape”. ARGH!

I talked about this briefly with Anna and agreed totally with her and Hanna. I think Jill articulated things so perfectly, and I’m grateful for that because I am feeling nauseated and ineloquent with anger and disappointment, particularly as the comes on the heels of a NYC jury acquitting two rapist cops in May. Maybe I’ll be more coherent later…I dunno.

Yeah, the combination of the blood pressure rise with the sinking feeling in my stomach…ARGH indeed. I’d like to meet the person who got into this country legally, without being white or having an advanced degree, and never told INS/Dept. of Homeland Security anything that wasn’t 100% factual.
