When I present myself to the world, I usually put in something about my health (chronically ill / disabled), my politics (liberal), my parent status (2 kids), alternative education (I'm homeschooling them), feminism is often left out because I assume everyone who knows me gets that, but sometimes I remember to put it in, I usually put in something about my pets (3 cats, 2 gerbils, 3 chickens), I say my hobbies (reading, quilting, videogames), beliefs (pagan).

I tend to leave out race (white northern european heavily german ancestry), class (upper middle), upbringing (poor, family dairy farm), even though those are all important parts of my identity. I also tend to leave out often my partnered with a husband of 17 yrs because when I'm online I'm presenting on my own.

I've spent many years refining my identity SEPARATE from family of origin, spouse, as a parent.

So when I distill my online bio over the years, I've ended up with most of the things in the first paragraph.

Very interesting blog post Anna, and an interesting topic. We all define outselves as included or apart from these various groups at various times in our lives. Cool to see what we list and what we leave out. I'd love to see others chime in on this.
