Everything I wrote after the ‘soiled’ sentence was intended to be read as irony.
The ‘In Puritan America…’ sentence was ‘lifted’ verbatim from an article in ‘The New Yorker’ that I thought was rather apologetic of D.S.K.

“….The French are always locking each other in hotel rooms and engaging in criminal sex acts. It’s part of the laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle…..”

Was the absurdity of that statement not clue enough that what would follow it would be equally absurd?

I don’t consider rape a “pleasure of the flesh”. If prosecuting a man for criminal sexual assault seems “Puritan”, “rigorously Protestant” or intolerant of sexual enjoyment, then this Jewish sex-positive feminist will happily sign up for all of the above.

And DSK got away with sexual violence in New York anyway, so not sure your point holds.

I feel slightly soiled having to agree with a Le Pen.

That statute of limitations is a lot better than in many US states. (Not that that changes anything about this case or makes it better, I’m just having a personally bitter moment here.)
