I enjoy going to Ill Doctrine and listening to what Jay Smooth has to say. I really enjoyed the first video about calling out racist talking/behaving as well. (I also liked his stuff on voting as well – and I’m glad where I live there is compulsory voting for all levels of government.)

I find this whole “I’m a good person” thing bizarre. ALL people are a mix of good and bad, a jumble. When people say “are you implying I’m not a good person?” it really is a silencing tactic. No one is all good. No one is ever through learning about and from others.

It’s a long hard process and starts with admitting that for whatever marginalized group you’re *not* part of, you are almost certainly “groupist”. First you admit it, and then you admit that the trait never ever goes away. You can only work to make the trait *tend* to 0.

You’ve reminded me of another sorta Buddhist idea: mindfulness. Another person who said to me lately that once you realize you are racist (sexist, ableist, heterosexist…) then you must always live mindfully: you must always focus on what you are doing and saying now.
