dcg @ Dead Cow Girl | Fifty Shades of Grey. A Review from the Dungeon. I asked, and dcg answered: Fifty Shades is crap at consent. Also,as someone points out in comments, if you want to read it check out the fan fiction version for free.
Marianne @ xoJane | Sex Isn’t Trashy – And Neither Are Sexy Books. Why do novels that include sexually explicit material get such a bad rap? Particularly the ones marketed to women? (via Feministing)
Tom Cox @ The Guardian | How to reorganise your bookshelves using the honesty system. “Of course, some of these excesses are simply a by-product of that elastic thing that can happen to time when we are in a bookshop, where our sheer good intentions and excitement overrule everything we have previously learned about how many hours there are in a day. ”
Lyla Cicero @ Role/Reboot | My Husband Does Do That: My Journey Out of the Equal Parenting Closet. “No one has the perfect marriage, but it was the gendered aspects of the husband-bashing which eluded me most—husbands not ‘helping’ around the house, never ‘watching the kids,’ oblivious to routines and childcare tasks.”

Eyder Peralta @ NPR | Study: Conservatives Trust in Science at Record Low. This story leaves a lot of questions about the study unanswered, but it’s still interesting food for thought.
s.e. smith @ Wandering Stars | Some thoughts on the responses to the passing of Adrienne Rich. Why it’s still sometimes important to speak ill (or at least honestly) of the dead.

Online, I’ve not been reading anything terribly interesting lately (Harpyness aside, of course).
Offline, I’ve been having an Antarctica moment – to coincide with the centenary of Scott’s last expedition, the Oates Museum (as in Titus ‘I am just going outside and may be some time’ Oates) has had a revamp which I’ve visited, and I’ve read Cherry, by Sara Wheeler ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-A-Life-Apsley-Cherry-Garrard/dp/0099437538/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333641051&sr=8-1 ), a biography of Apsley Cherry-Garrard, one of the explorers.
I’ve always been a bit obsessed with these guys, and the more I read and find out about them, the more humbled I am by their endurance and what they went through.
Other interesting things about this:
The Worst Journey In The World, by Apsley C-G: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Worst-Journey-World-Vintage-Classics/dp/0099530376/ref=pd_sim_b_1

London Natural History Museum exhibition for the centenary (which I will be going to this summer) : http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/whats-on/temporary-exhibitions/scott-last-expedition//index.html
@anna, the piece on Adrienne Rich is fantastic.
Being able to celebrate the great things that a person does/has done does not negate or should stop people from talking about the aweful things that have also been done.
I didn’t know that Rich engaged in transmysogyny. And now I have mixed feelings about her passing. For all her work on inclusion, there was one group that wasn’t allowed inside the tent..
I could only read as far as the women-blaming sentences in the “My Husband Does Do That: My Journey Out of the Equal Parenting Closet” piece.
Sorry
