@anna, the piece on Adrienne Rich is fantastic.
Being able to celebrate the great things that a person does/has done does not negate or should stop people from talking about the aweful things that have also been done.
I didn't know that Rich engaged in transmysogyny. And now I have mixed feelings about her passing. For all her work on inclusion, there was one group that wasn't allowed inside the tent..

Online, I've not been reading anything terribly interesting lately (Harpyness aside, of course).
Offline, I've been having an Antarctica moment - to coincide with the centenary of Scott's last expedition, the Oates Museum (as in Titus 'I am just going outside and may be some time' Oates) has had a revamp which I've visited, and I've read Cherry, by Sara Wheeler ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-A-Life-Apsley-Cherry-Garrard/dp/0099437538/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333641051&sr=8-1 ), a biography of Apsley Cherry-Garrard, one of the explorers.

I've always been a bit obsessed with these guys, and the more I read and find out about them, the more humbled I am by their endurance and what they went through.

Other interesting things about this:
The Worst Journey In The World, by Apsley C-G: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Worst-Journey-World-Vintage-Classics/dp/0099530376/ref=pd_sim_b_1
Scott's Journals: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Journals-Captain-Scotts-Expedition-Classics/dp/0199536805/ref=pd_rhf_se_shvl2
Oates Museum: http://www.gilbertwhiteshouse.org.uk/the-oates-collection/
London Natural History Museum exhibition for the centenary (which I will be going to this summer) : http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/whats-on/temporary-exhibitions/scott-last-expedition//index.html
