@veganmarcy, I feel a bit the same way, which is something that I need to process as I move toward tying the knot. While I’m obviously making a life with Hanna because she’s who I want to make a life with … I think if we were a hetero couple I might feel more emotional resistance to getting straight-married. Whereas getting gay-married I’m totally down with. I think because it feels like there’s less heteronormative baggage around the event. But I have a certain measure of guilt over this, like it’s a form of queer privilege that I can get married without the bullshit.

Then I remember that my home state passed a law back in 2004 making it illegal for me to get married … and I stop feeling quite so privileged about it !

I tend to get cynical or at least doubtful about the institution of marriage. That being said, the one thing that makes me warm & fuzzy about it at all is gay marriage.
